just a quick update to my previous post, "my learning path". mainly for sake of clarity as i continue to write about my studies and experiences.
i switched my primary education resource from HackTheBox Academy (HTB-A), to TheCyberMentor Security Academy (TCM-A). it might specifically be due to me being newer to this field, and therefore sometimes feeling like i'm drinking from a fire hose, but i appreciate the videos and spoken-word delivery from TCM-A.
HTB-A definitely had high quality teaching too, but the density of reading involved didn't feel as engaging or as efficient -- again though, this may be due to me being less experienced with the material.
my hypothesis is that high density text can shine when the reader has a mid to high level of proficiency already. they can look at the written ideas and filter them through their own robust mental models, allowing them to extract the key concepts.
other than that, the general goal is the same: keep earning experience, keep learning, secure a help-desk role, obtain the CompTIA "gold standard trifecta" of certifications, dive into ethical hacking, and see what the future holds in store for me on this path.
i'm specifically excited to dive into TCM-A's "Practical Bug Bounty" course next, as i'm applying to help-desk jobs. i'm not joking when i say i'm excited to start honing my chops on report writing -- the countless hours spent writing scouting reports for combat sports finally get to be used (well, sort of haha!)
